It proposes to provide a space of relief for everyone, acting like large living rooms for the inhabitants of the city, they combine elements of pleasure, education and distraction, as well as a space for the public to organise. The project imagines a catalytic insertion into Boston’s Charlestown neighborhood that serves a diverse array of consituencies. Charlestown is an old by splintered community, with an uncertain future in the face of creeping gentrification. To frame an alternative future for the urban fabric and city infrastructure, this project builds over and under, crossing past the site boundaries underneath the Tobian Memorial highway. Bridges and highways are structures that connect, but also reveal gaps. For this project, the abandoned underspaces and gaps of the city are explored in proposing a new “underpass” as the people’s palace. A new “underpass” that extends into the city on one side while dissolving into the highway on the other, bridging the gap between the scale of buildings of either side of the site. Whole program blocks are fragmented into separate smaller volumes of spaces to create more intimate interactions through scale and courtyards. In this way, programs are housed in invididual volumes that allow for intentional interactions. The large roof deck acts as an intersecting plane that distinguishes programs. Architects design and build systemically through the summation and ordering of these elements. In a project’s early stages, poché is the gap between the formulation of ideas and their formal synthesis; in buildings, it is quite literally the cavity that holds architecture’s hidden elements. The conceptual drivers for what constitutes this thickened zone have varied throughout history. In the 15th century, shading poché rendered space; in the 19th century Beaux Arts school, watercol-or-filled contours signified material cuts and hidden service spaces; and in the 1970s, historian Alan Colquhoun described poché as architecture’s “secondary spaces.” These representational techniques evinced architecture’s physical, metaphysical, and virtual divides. As referred to by Mark Pimlott, “public interiors” are spatially contained environments which are experienced as belonging to the public sphere. In this project, poché is conceived of as the “third space”: a public interior. Public program becomes housed in between the walls of the distillery, absorbing the leftover spaces. The rest and restoration of both the bodies and the buildings of an under-utilized office block in Chelsea, Massachussetts is the guiding concept for this energy cooperative housing project: c ooperative housing for gourment rest. In pursuing an architecture of rest, we rethink how human bodies rest together in both new and old ways, reviving pre-modern forms of sleep and their attendant architectures and creature comforts alongside some new ones as well. Similarly, we seek to rethink the comfort of buildings themselves, looking towards the idea of building scale blankets, or “bed clothes for the building” that propose to swaddle structures with soft layers of insulation against the exterior climate, eliminating the need for mechanical conditioning and letting the buildings themselves drift off to sleep. We looked towards the site to see what existing conditions might get in our way, mapping the enemies of rest in the area: the big box mattress store, single family homes, hospitals and laundromats. Taking inspiration from Thomas Sheppey’s Book of Choice Recipies, a medical document from 1675 that wrote out recipes of sleep as antidotes for various ailments from insomnia to gout. So we, too, write a series of recipes to combat our enemies. We collect these antidotes and salves for a tired world in a menu of recipes for gourmet rest: - Big Bed - Parking Bed - Continous Bed - Cabinet Bed - Diurnal Bed - Building Sleep Additionally, a laundry coop is inserted on the ground floor as the secondary commercial co-op to service our architecture of beds and textiles. The long history of laundry co-op as the largest, oldest, most commercially viable co-ops positions laundry as a kind of anchor tenant upon which other commerical programs rest. &nbsp; <img Rhodes Festival of Flowers is an architectural and cultural intervention centered around Medellín’s iconic annual flower festival, which celebrates the city’s floral industry and rich traditions. As Colombia’s second-largest export, flowers play a critical economic and cultural role—particularly in Medellín, the “City of Eternal Spring.” This project introduces a dynamic flower facility adjacent to the city’s parade route that serves as a year-round hub for floral cultivation, cultural exchange, and sustainable reuse of flower waste. By transforming a former tin factory into a multi-functional space with open greenhouses, workshops, lodging, and material research labs, the project bridges urban and rural communities while addressing challenges like displacement, gentrification, and post-festival waste. Repurposed materials and dried flowers are incorporated into architecture, creating a living archive that honors the labor of flower growers and the spirit of the festival, extending its impact well Elusive Details” is a collaboration between Honor Bishop and Hana Kim. The project consists of a series of assembly/disassembly designs that repurpose Portland Stone offcuts from a nearby quarry/stone mason’s yard. The series of furniture pieces produced are, through the materials used, evocative of the highly specific/local and generic/industrial world within which we live. All pieces are crafted using threaded bar and bolts and discarded stone. In underlying educational philosophies, such as Reggio Emilia or Waldorf, the physical environment is viewed as a 'third teacher.’ Seeing the built environment through the lens of education has fuelled my architectural interests. We can learn from buildings as we learn to build them. Some of my design project deals with the task of adaptive reuse, contemplating on buildings within a longer time frame. Other projects focus on texture and materiality, creating designs that evoke our senses and draw our attention to the ordinary. Along the way I have developed an attentiveness to making malleable spaces that we can learn from.I am currently a Master of Architecture candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and hold a B.A from Ryerson University where I majored in early childhood education.
